Repainting steel gutters.
Clean the entire surface of the gutters and downspouts with a detergent and water solution then rinse them clean.
How to paint gutters.
Be sure you rinse the gutters and let them dry thoroughly before you commence painting.
Before you paint your steel gutters you want to repair any holes or cracks in them.
Can i use british paints 4 seasons on them.
New steel gutters have a thin surface treatment.
Try to get off as much of the old paint as you can.
The plastic putty knife does not scratch aluminum like a metal putty knife or steel wire brush.
If you find any remove it by applying a solution of one part household bleach to three parts water allowing it to remain on the surface for 20 minutes then scrubbing off the mildew.
Scrape off any flaking paint with a plastic putty knife.
Fixing holes is more complicated.
Strip off the old paint with a plastic putty knife.
If you have a gutter patch you can use it.
One coat of british paints prep 4 in 1 oil based followed by two coats of british paints 4 seasons should do the trick nicely.
If not removed it will prevent paint from adhering to the steel.
Just be sure to give them a thorough sugar soap wash and a sanding too.
Fill them with silicone caulk and let dry.
You are now ready to inspect and repair your steel gutter.
A plastic putty knife is ideal as it will not scratch the gutters like a metal or steel wire brush might.
Position a stepladder under the gutters.
Move the stepladder as necessary and continue scraping the old loose paint from the entire gutter system.
Using a piece of steel wool scrub at the perimeter of any holes in order to give the surface texture so that the adhesive you ll use to affix the metal flashing patch will be able to create a better bond.
Fixing cracks are the easiest.
